Acker takes special care to assemble Jackets

The Kitsap BlueJackets manager thinks character first

By Terry Mosher Kitsap Sun

Posted May 30, 2011 at 7:23 p.m.

SILVERDALE —When you show up for a Kitsap BlueJackets baseball game, be aware a lot of thought has gone into the roster. Manager Matt Acker has been with the BlueJackets, who open the season Wednesday, since the team's inception seven years ago. Character is a key factor when it comes to signing players. Acker has let talented players go by because they do not fit what the club wants. "The guys we bring in understand the community and the fans are important and playing together as a team is important," Acker said. "Sometimes we pass up a guy who is an 'I' guy for that reason. The players appreciate that so they want to come back every year."
